Bio
Although best known for his roles as Newman in SEINFELD or Nedry in JURASSIC PARK, Wayne Knight’s career began in the theatre. Following an internship at the Barter Theatre in Virginia which secured him an Equity card, he first appeared on Broadway in 1979 in Gemini at the age of 23. He returned to Broadway in Larry Gelbart’s MASTERGATE, ART, and SWEET CHARITY with Christina Applegate. He was seen in MEASURE FOR MEASURE at Lincoln Center and MEASURE FOR PLEASURE at Joseph Papp’s Public Theatre. In 2009, Wayne impersonated Jolson, Durante and Rudy Vallee in the role of Geiber Goldfarb for the Encores revival of the Gershwin musical GIRL CRAZY.
Knight’s film career also began in 1979 with THE WANDERERS. He’s appeared in numerous films including DIRTY DANCING, EVERYBODY’S ALL AMERICAN, DEAD AGAIN, JFK, BASIC INSTINCT, TO DIE FOR, SPACE JAM, FOR RICHER OR POORER, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, as well as the animated features TOY STORY 2, TARZAN, HERCULES and KUNG FU PANDA.
On television, Wayne has guested on shows ranging from CSI and BONES to the sketch comedy challenge, THANK GOD YOU’RE HERE and has been a regular or recurring character on series including 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN, THE SECOND HALF, THE EDGE, ASSAULTED NUTS and AGAINST THE GRAIN . Knight was also a regular on the web series, WOKE UP DEAD . He is currently recurring on HOT IN CLEVELAND for TVLand and will be seen in TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY for Starz and BBC Worldwide. He begins filming his own series for TVLand, THE EXES this summer. It will debut in January 2012.
